Recently I attended the Westside Social Programs Art Exhibition at Parliament House. Westside Community Services is a not-for-profit organisation providing various services to people with a wide range of disabilities and those who care for them. They have a focus on helping people with a disability develop personal skills to assist independent living and ultimately find satisfying employment. In 2011 the Art Program was overseen by local artist Lien Smith, who encouraged clients to experiment with different styles and media. The artwork was vibrant and diverse and I commend all those who had their pieces on display. It was also great to see many of my Parliamentary colleagues enjoying the exhibition on the night; I know they too were impressed with the colourful array of paintings and sculptures, and the fine work Westside does in the Community for people with a disability. I extend my sincere thanks to Ernst von Haller, Chairman of Westside, for his kind invitation and look forward to seeing the organisation's continued success.
