What an honour it was for me to attend the ANZAC Day Parade for 2010

at Bald Hills State School this morning.

It was a moving occasion that brought together the entire school

community of students, family, friends, teachers, current service

personnel and importantly, local returned Servicemen and women.

As Army Warrant Officer Fred Airs said in his address to the student body

this morning, there are now no longer any survivors of the Gallipoli

campaign, and as a function of the relentless march of time, fewer and

fewer veterans of our other major campaigns.

As a proud daughter of a retired Navy Warrant Officer, it is personally hearteningthat there is ever-increasing awareness of the significance of ANZAC Day in our community.  This morning's event at Bald Hills was another example of the deep appreciation that our community has for

those who fought and died for our country.
