Go Cards are going nowhere fast says the local State Member of Parliament, Tracy Davis.
“Increasing the number of outlets to purchase a Go Card in the Aspley Electorate from two to four, as was recently announced, is woefully inadequate to encourage people to use this system,” said Ms Davis.
“Before Christmas, the Opposition warned the State Labor Government that there were not enough Go Card retail outlets to replace the paper ticket system and that this needed to be urgently addressed.
“The ongoing debacle over the Go Card system and unfair fare hikes for public transport users in South East Queensland is continuing to disadvantage thousands of people in our northern suburbs.
“However, Transport Minister Rachel Nolan refuses to listen and has pressed ahead with these discriminatory changes to the fare structure which penalise paper ticket users – even if they can’t easily buy a Go Card or top it up.
“Most residents in our area live in Translink zone 4, and I am very concerned about those residents travelling with paper tickets from areas such as Bald Hills whose daily ticket to the city will increase to $10.60, and up to $12.00 if travelling from Zone 5.
“The reliability of the current system also needs urgent attention. Last year my office received numerous complaints regarding ongoing failures with Go Cards and partons being fined as a result.
