The views of Carseldine residents regarding the effect of the Fitzgibbon UDA development on their suburb have again been silenced by the State Labor Government.
This Thursday night in Parliament, the South East Queensland Regional Plan substantive motion was shamefully guillotined by the Leader of the House.
What could the Minister possibly have to gain from shutting down those of us who represent the views of our established urban areas who challenge the poor planning of this Government?
Parliament House is the “people’s house”, and the concerns of Carseldine residents deserve to be heard.
The Department of Infrastructure and Planning website states that “Nearly half are to be built in established urban areas through infill and redevelopment” – that’s why many Carseldine residents are rightfully concerned with the Fitzgibbon UDA.
The Fitzgibbon UDA will have a massive impact on our already stretched local transport infrastructure - the extension to the Northern Busway may not be delivered until 2026, and this government continues to discount residents’ concerns regarding the Telegraph road open level rail crossing.
There is a total failure by this government to providing adequate infrastructure to support the Fitzgibbon UDA.
The vast majority of those I speak to in Carseldine remain angered about the loss of greenspace on the QUT Carseldine Campus, the traffic impacts on the local area, and the huge increases in people who will be seeking access to already overcrowded trains. |
